CENTRAL MEN'S NIGHT OUT:

Central Men’s Night Out will meet on Wednesday, August 27th at 6:30 p.m. Call the church office for details or email Marty at marty@centraldenver.com.

SERENDIPITY:

Serendipity Group will meet on Wednesday, August 27th at 7:00 p.m. Call the church office for details.

CHOIR REHEARSALS:

Choir rehearsals will start back up on August 28th with Bell Choir at 6:15 p.m. and Chancel Choir at 7:30 p.m.  Please contact Steven Burchard with your questions.  Come and check it out.  It may be your “Holy Gift.”

WORSHIP TIME CHANGE:

Central will return to 10:30 a.m. worship on August 31.  There will be no Adult Education on August 31.  The education hour will return to 9:15 a.m. on September 7.

BREAKFAST BLAST:

Bring your kids for a full hot breakfast!  If you have children (ages 0-17), you will want to mark your calendars now! Our fall BREAKFAST BUDDY BLAST is Sunday, September 7th, on the third floor, 9-10:15 a.m. You will have an opportunity to make friends, eat a GREAT breakfast, register your children for upcoming programs, and have your say about what we schedule for this year. You will get the scoop on upcoming dates for Bible presentations, youth group, confirmation class, overnights, parent day outs, and help determine the calendar for Worship Enrichment for the year. Bring your calendars. You can sign up for your volunteer spots for the year too! Jackie has some really fun ideas simmering on the back burner and she is waiting to see which ones YOU would like to try!

TUESDAY MORNING MEN'S GROUP:

Every second Tuesday of the month (next one – September 9th), a group of men interested in deepening their connection to one another and to God gather at 7:00 a.m. in the church parlor.  Over breakfast and coffee, the group discusses how their faith-life and work-life intersect.  If you are interested in attending, the door is always open.  If you have specific questions contact Marty at 303-839-5500 or marty@centraldenver.com for more information. 

CENTRAL BOOK CLUB:

Come to Marty’s home on September 9th at 7:00 p.m. with your favorite new book that you would like to see as one of the upcoming book club choices.  Please join us. Call or email Roz in the church office with questions.

THE SOMETHINGS: A GROUP FOR 20- AND 30-SOMETHINGS:

Friday, September 12th, all 20- and 30-somethings, single or married, are invited to gather at McCormick’s Bar on 17th and Wazee at 5:00pm.  There’s no agenda; just a chance to get to know each other better.  Feel free to invite friends from outside the church to join us for this casual gathering.  Questions?  Contact Jacqueline Decker Vanderpol

"SAY IT WITH MUSIC" SPECIAL!  FOR ALL WOMEN OF THE CHURCH:

Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 10:00 a.m.  to 12:00 noon  Catered Brunch in the Narthex.  Child care provided, parking included, $5.00 per person.  Bring a friend to share fun, food, and fellowship.

UNSURE ABOUT WALKING?

Have you thought about walking the labyrinth but are unsure whether it’s for you?  Do you wish you knew a little more about it before participating yourself?  Then, Sunday, September 14th is your chance!  During the education hour (from 9:00am – 10:15am), the labyrinth will be available in the fellowship hall.  While some may choose to participate in walking the labyrinth, all are invited to come, watch and learn a little more about this spiritual tool.  Individuals will be available to answer questions, but you don’t have to have a question to join us.  You can simply come and watch!  If you have questions about the 14th – or any questions about the labyrinth – please contact Jackie Kendal-Gebel or Jacqueline Decker Vanderpol. 

BBQ FOR FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN:

Join us Sunday, September 14th for a casual BBQ with other families with young children.  We will gather from 5:00pm – 7:00pm at a church member's home.  This will be a social time to get to know each other better and to let us know how the church can best serve your family over the coming year (educational opportunities, parents’ nights out, other social gatherings, etc.).  Burgers, dogs, and veggie burgers will be provided.  Please bring a side dish or dessert to share.  Please RSVP to the church office (303.839.5500, Jacqueline@centraldenver.com) so we know how many to expect.  See Jacqueline with questions. 

FELLOWSHIP LUNCH AND MISSION FAIR:

After worship on Sunday, September 21st we will gather in the fellowship hall for a catered congregational lunch and for our annual mission fair.  It  will be a time to come back together as a congregation after the summer and to enjoy time eating, talking, and getting to know those in our family of faith. We will also have the opportunity to browse booths staffed by representatives of each of the mission organizations Central supports. The organizations include: newgenesis, Central Visitation Program, Metro CareRing, Habitat for Humanity, Rainbow Alley, Colfax Community Network, Capitol Hill United Ministries, Presbyterian Church (USA) Mission Fund, The Sewing Circle, The Third Way, and Central’s Annual Mission Trip.

CENTRAL 101: AN INQUIRER'S CLASS:

Are you new to Central – either as a visitor or new member – and want to know more about the congregation?  Have you been around for a while and find that you would still like to know more about the ministries taking place within the congregation?  If so, mark your calendars for September 28, October 5 and 12 when we will offer a Sunday School class just for you.  Led by Rev. Jacqueline Decker Vanderpol, the class will give you an opportunity to meet the staff, learn about the ministries we support, and ask questions about the congregation, denomination, and theology.  We will meet at 9:15am in the conference room adjacent to the narthex     

CENTRAL GLBT:

This group offers the opportunity to talk about Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered concerns and thoughts within our faith community.  The next meeting is Monday, September 29th at 6:30 p.m. If you would like more information regarding this group, please contact one of the pastors: Jacqueline@centraldenver.com or marty@centraldenver.com.

Save the dates of Friday, October 17 – Saturday, October 18 for the 2008 Women’s Retreat.  Led by Rev. Gretchen Bretz, the retreat will focus on the theme “Simplicity is Anything but Simple” and will help women simplify their lives in order to make room for the things that matter most.  To sign up, complete the registration form and return it to the church office or to the Women's Retreat table in the narthex.

LEADING CONTEMPLATIVE GATHERINGS:

How can we create a safe environment in classes and groups for people to share their “God sightings”? This new program is sponsored by Spiritual Direction Colorado and endorsed by Central’s session.

     For Whom: Any who feel called to incorporate spiritual practices in ordinary teaching or  

                      group leading. 

     Leader:  Kent Groff and others   

     Location: University Park United Methodist Church (across from D.U.).

     Dates: October 17-18, 2008 and April 24-25, 2009.

     Design: Between October and April each participant (or teams of two) will prepare and

                 lead a 1-2 ½ day retreat or a 4-6 week group back home incorporating

                 contemplative prayer practices.
