Created by Wil Smith
Join us for a Good Friday Service featuring Giovanni Pergolesi’s beautiful and haunting Baroque masterpiece, Stabat Mater, performed by soprano Stephanie Ball, alto Teleri Gee, strings and continuo. This service is celebrated in partnership with Trinity United Methodist and United Church of Montbello.
The text of the Stabat Mater tells the story of the Crucifixion though the suffering of Mary, mother of Jesus. This setting, by Giovanni Pergolesi, was written in 1736 and composed in the final months of his short but creative 26 years of life. It immediately found popularity in the 18th century, and continues to be one of the most popular settings of the Stabat Mater today.
Free and open to the public.
