Faces and Doors
by Marty Jewell
The Word in Scripture
Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily I say unto you I am the door of the sheep.
I am the door, by me if anyone enter in, they shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. John 10: 7 & 9
Faces and doors
What are you looking for?
Do you want something more
than what is outside?
Find out what they hide.
Faces and doors
Just look behind
and you might find
surprise in store,
treasure or more!
I love taking photos. (Actually, it’s a passion in my family). I’m also fascinated with faces, some real, some imagined. And I’m intrigued by unusual and artistic doors. I’m curious as to what’s behind these “facades”. Some seem inviting, some seem scary, some are amusing, but all are thoughtful. I think it’s the same with people. Sometimes doors and people are locked up. We might not have keys to a door, but the key to people is a smile and recognition, starting with “Hello”.
At Central our goal is to be inviting and welcoming. “Come inside our building” then come and see and hear and know.
People are curious and want to learn. We can learn, and lean, with others, sharing and opening. We open doors, we open books, we can open hearts.
I love small groups, since as an introvert (really!) I find it challenging to be in a crowd. I’m thankful for the opportunities to study and fellowship in the groups available here at Central. As a widow now I’m seeking balance between being alone, and needing contact with others. Sometimes I have to push myself to talk to people I don’t know, and when I do, I usually, joyfully, discover a new idea, a new story, and a new connection.
Dear Lord and Door to Salvation, I ask that you open my ears, eyes, mind and heart to opportunities and to people, that I might be a light in a sometimes dark and lonely world.
There are pictures of Jesus knocking at a door. If you’re on the inside, will you let him in? How will we welcome strangers into our building and our community? And remember, since Jesus is THE DOOR, we welcome in His name!
